Sunny
Total Time = 2h 46m 45s
Overall Rank = 302/885
Age Group = 25 to 29
Age Group Rank = 44/86
Pre-race routine:

Got there early, calmed down our puppy since she was nervous with all the people. Watched the pros swim.
Event warmup:

Jogged for about half mile, swam a few hundred off to the side. Tried to stay loose for the 1.5hrs I had to wait from transition close to when I started.
Swim
  • 29m 13s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 57s / 100 meters
Comments:

Stayed wide to avoid the cluster, but stayed a little too wide I think. Added more to the swim than I needed to. The 2nd buoy was difficult to sight since it was a large distance between the 1st and 2nd buoy. The overall distance seemed long too.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe mirrored goggles for the sun.
Transition 1
  • 02m 39s
Comments:

Ok considering the distance of the transition area with 3000 participants.
Bike
  • 1h 17m 36s
  • 24.8 miles
  • 19.18 mile/hr
Comments:

I wanted to hit 20mph avg, but came up short. I did tone it down for the last 2-3miles in prep for the run. I got hung up by a few people in the narrow sections and had to wait for a chance to pass.
What would you do differently?:

Go a little harder.
Transition 2
  • 01m 52s
Run
  • 55m 24s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

The run in the heat got me. I went out at a good pace and needed to drop it quickly within the first 2 miles. No cramping, but felt that I needed to keep this pace to not over do it. Picked it up the last 1.2miles, but still had a slow run time.
What would you do differently?:

Get used to the heat more.
Post race
Warm down:

Iced towels, and lots of snacks. Sat down for a few minutes to get out of the sun. Then wandered around with friends and got my free beer at the beer tent.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat.

Event comments:

Not too bad for my first Olympic Race and 2nd Tri. Wanted to beat 2:45, but just missed it. I'll have a better understanding of what to do for the next one.
