Swim
Comments: This was a breakthrough swim for me. For the first time ever I was able to do freestyle the entire way, breaking only for a recovery stroke or two if I got a large mouthful of water. The feeling was amazing, it felt nearly effortless to keep going through the water in comparison to my just feeling like I was surviving the swim in my other races. I also stayed much closer to the main action as I was less concerned with seriously injuring someone with my sidestroke. Over 3 minutes faster then either of my previous two times on course (including once only 2 months ago!) What would you do differently?: I need to practice spotting more, I would get into a fabulous, comfortable rhythm and then need to look up and spot which threw me off. Transition 1
Comments: This was slow. Tummy not feeling great and body was moving slow. Still basking in my victorious swim. What would you do differently?: Just get a move on. Bike
Comments: A good, solid bike ride for me. Was able to get and stay on my aero bars most of the time on this fast, flat course. Passed many people and was passed by few. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 2
Comments: Fine transition, no problems. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: This is where it all fell apart. I felt horrific for the first 1/2 and had to walk lots, it was a 15 minute mile! My tummy just couldn't take it and I had to walk. I think not eating for a few days really caught up with me. I did this 2 months ago in 37 and have been running regularly since then. What would you do differently?: Be in better GI health. Post race
Warm down: The usual. What limited your ability to perform faster: My GI health. Event comments: This is a nicely organized fairly slick race on a very easy fast course. I highly recommend it. It is an especially nice course for a first tri. Last updated: 2010-07-26 12:00 AM

I've been SICK with GI issues and had consumed about 300 cals each of Thurs, and Fri. I had lost 5 pounds since Monday. Told myself I could simply not race if I didn't eat something for dinner on Fri night so hubby was making pasta and I ate part of a bowl and most of it stayed down. Certainly not at my best for this race. Got up feeling iffy and ate 1/2 piece of toast with a thin layer of pb. Packed up and off I went.
I rarely warm up, but I forced myself to get in the water because I know I needed psychologically to remember that I could do free style in open water.
