Overcast
Total Time = 2h 23m 19s
Overall Rank = 10/56
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 2/12
Pre-race routine:

woke up 4:15, toast and banana for breakfast, mug of coffee, forgot bike helmet, had to go back after 10 miles down the road, also a road closure, arrived a race a little later than planned as a result, check in line was long, bathrooms were terrible
Event warmup:

swam about 200 yards EZ
Swim
  • 26m 19s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 36s / 100 yards
Comments:

took it easy, slower than last year, 2 head on's with other waves, didn't get hurt, swim was OK
What would you do differently?:

pace a little slow, shoulders a little sore when starting out
Transition 1
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

OK transition, in line with most of the other times
What would you do differently?:

not much
Bike
  • 1h 09m 56s
  • 24.4 miles
  • 20.93 mile/hr
Comments:

felt good, legs a little heavy at the beginning, course flat, most of the time kept in the next to hardest gear and tried to keep a high cadence, tried to keep HR around 150, in aerobars basically the entire time, first loop didn't see any other riders, saw more the second loop
What would you do differently?:

not much, pace was about right
Transition 2
  • 01m 38s
Comments:

T2 time slower than most because I take the time to change/tie shoes, put on race belt
What would you do differently?:

not much
Run
  • 44m 10s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

legs felt good off the bike, started a little fast, felt good first 4 miles, mile 5 was tough and was trying to save up a little, mile 6 felt better, surprised at time and pace (faster than a 10k I ran earlier this year)
What would you do differently?:

not much, maybe start a little slower, someone told me I need to run with my head up more, tried to keep pace tough, small steps, high cadence
Post race
Warm down:

walked around, legs cramping

What limited your ability to perform faster:

swim slower than last year, mile 5 on the run was tough

Event comments:

good race overall, was unsure of performance because of limited biking and running last few days prior, but worked out OK, person 1st in AG was 3rd overall, so I was awarded first place trophy in age group, only 2nd time I've done that
