Swim
Comments: I was not very nervous but when i got in the pool and started to swim i could not get my breathing relaxed. I ended up doing more floating on my back then normal. after i got out of the pool i thought my time was much slower then my training times but it was right on. What would you do differently?: I need to take some lessons. I started to swim at the Y about 10 weeks ago and watched as many video's and read a swim book to try and learn some technique. As you can tell by my time i still have a long ways to go. Transition 1
Comments: When i got out of the pool i did not feel bad but i tried to just be steady in T1. i put on my socks and shoes grabbed my bike shirt put on my helmet, gloves and glasses and walked to the timing mat. jumped on the bike and headed out. What would you do differently?: I need to work on my swimming so i will feel better coming out of the pool. I had trained on the bike and going to the run but did not practice going from the pool to the bike. now i have a refernce feeling. Bike
Comments: Again i need to train more. My best training time at this distance had been 43.00 but i did not push as hard during this race because i wanted to be able to finish the run. i knew i could do the distance but i was nervous about doing all three evnts together for the first time. i did drink some water during the ride and ate a gel after making the turn to come back. What would you do differently?: Continue to train more. Transition 2
Comments: i was wearing my running shoes during my bike because i have not purchased clip in pedals and shoes yet. so i racked the bike and changed my shirt. pretty simple over all. What would you do differently?: next time i will not change shirts but have a number belt and run in the shirt that i ride in. Run
Comments: as you can tell by my time running is not a joy. My goal for this race was to finish. I got off the bike and walked while getting a drink and then started my slow pace. I was glad to be near the end. My breathing was not to bad. i just don't move my legs very fast. What would you do differently?: i will continue to train. We are going to train for a half marathon next in october so my stamina should continue to get better. We are also going to do the commanche warrior triathlon in Big Spring on September. That course will have more hills so i don't think i will be able to compare race times but i will know if i feel stronger or weaker after the race. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and drank some water. visited with friends that came out to cheeer me on. That was the best part. i grabbed a sandwich and waited to watch the awards. What limited your ability to perform faster: i need more training and some swim lessons. Event comments: I had a great time and i can't wait to do it again. Big Spring is next but i am nervous about the open water swim. i am going to drag my father-in-law and his Kayake out to the lake to make sure i don't drown and do a practice run. The bike distance will be ok but i want to check out the hills. Last updated: 2010-08-06 12:00 AM

I woke up at 5.30 and had a banana and some water and loaded the bike in the truck. I got to the com at 5.50 and racked the bike and set up my transition. this was my first Triathlon so i took my time and tried to enjoy the excitment.
I did not wamrup for the swim. I was put in the first wave and got in line. My swimming is poor so it would have helped if i had gotten in the pool for a lap or two.
