Age Group Rank = 1/10
Pre-race routine:

Usual: Bagels, coffee, shower, shave, dress, 20-minute drive to race site. set up on an aisle spot third row from bike exit. Just like last year, grabbed a broom to spread out the water accumulated in puddles from last night's rain.
Event warmup:

Nah.
Swim
  • 03m 24s
  • 164 yards
  • 02m 04s / 100 yards
Comments:

Usual sucky swim. Two seconds slower than last year. Dylan started 10 seconds behind me and passed me on the second turn.

Time includes short run to transition.
What would you do differently?:

One of these days I'm going to learn to swim.
Transition 1
  • 00m 37s
Comments:

Uneventful, passed Dylan in transition. Seventh fastest overall.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, pretty routine
Bike
  • 38m 27s
  • 14 miles
  • 21.85 mile/hr
Comments:

Not a bad ride. Passed a lot of folks early, no one passed me, kept my lead on Dylan. This course includes a bad stretch of service road that is impossible to ride in aero and hard to maintain 20 mph. They're supposed to be resurfacing next month. After the service road, hit a nice stretch of good pavement and tailwind that had me up over 27 for the whole length.

Nearly two minutes (a full mph) slower than last year.
What would you do differently?:

This whole season has been recovery from last winter's nagging little injuries, so neither my bike nor run is up to par. Hopefully I can continue to work it over the winter and have a better season next year.
Transition 2
  • 00m 52s
Comments:

Not sure why this was so slow, nearly 20 seconds slower than last year.
What would you do differently?:

Dunno
Run
  • 17m 42s
  • 2 miles
  • 08m 51s  min/mile
Comments:

Not many races where my run placement (120th) is going to be slower than my swim (104th). Run is nowhere close to where it should/could be.

Dylan passed me within the first quarte-mile,as do Aaron, another 18-year-old. He said "Caught you!" I said, "Yeah, you're one-third my age." Almost caught up to Dylan when he walked the water station, but then I caught a side cramp and had to back off.

2:15 slower than last year. More than a minute a mile.

What would you do differently?:

**sigh**
Post race
Warm down:

Stood around, drank, ate, talked.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Injury setback and weight gain.

Event comments:

Keith always puts on a great little race, tons of volunteers, nice enough course. Good job again!
