Swim
Comments: Felt good in the water. Probably could have pushed it a little bit more, but I was worried about the bike, since I hadn't ridden in a while. I got crowded by my lane partner a couple of times, so I just decided to brush up against her to keep her on her side. What would you do differently?: nothing Transition 1
Comments: It rained while we were waiting for the swim to start, so some of my gear got wet, including my socks. So they were a little difficult to get on. But other than that, a good transition. What would you do differently?: cover my stuff with a plastic bag, regardless of how nice the skies look during the pre-race meeting. Bike
Comments: I am really happy with my bike time. I think I improved 10+ minutes from last year. What a difference some experience on a new bike makes! I took an approx. 1 minute break at the turn-around on Christopher's Crossing to drink and have a GU. I could tell I was thirsty before then, but wanted to keep going to my predetermined spot. I woman passed me while I stopped, but I passed her again on Motter Ave. I think I would have passed her earlier, but I was intimidated by the traffic on Motter, so I waited until it was clear. What would you do differently?: nothing Transition 2
Comments: I was set up really close to this side of the transition area, so I hardly had to run with my bike in my shoes. I was a little clumsy putting on my running shoes, especially since I don't have lock laces in this pair. Grabbed my hat and race number belt and headed off for the run. What would you do differently?: change my laces? Run
Comments: My run didn't start off well, since it felt like I had a rock in my shoe from transition. I decided to stop to try and fix it - to no avail. (Looking at the times, this stop cost me a couple of spots in the overall standings. Doh!!) So I had this annoying thing in my shoe during the entire run - not painful, just annoying. Other than that, I felt really strong, and felt like I was really running, not just jogging. Took water from the FTC water stops. Finished strong. What would you do differently?: not get rocks in my shoe...? Post race
Warm down: Didn't warm down, since I knew I was going to run some more to get my volume in. Took my time to put on dry running gear, get a snack, and clean up my transition area. Saw in the preliminary results that I wasn't going to place in my AG (shock!) so figured it was OK to miss the award ceremony. Ran 5.24 miles around Frederick. Event comments: I'm really pleased with my time, and my 16-minute improvement from last year. Given my lack of mental (and bike/swim) preparation, I can't complain! I'm glad they changed the swim start format - things seem to move much more smoothly in the pool. I Last updated: 2010-09-03 12:00 AM

I started off very luke-warm about this race, since I hadn't hit the pool or bike hardly at all since Irongirl. Also, I've been resting my foot, and not running like I could have been. But regardless, woke up about 5:15, left home around 5:45 am. Drank Perpetuem and ate PB on white in the car. I knew from last year that the transition area didn't get crowded, so I wasn't worried about getting there "late". Found a spot on the edge, so I had extra room to spread out and leave my bag. Set up my area, and decided to stash a GU in my bike bag, so I could fuel up at the turn-around. I didn't think I really needed it for the race, but I was already looking ahead to my run after the race. I wanted to have a GU before the race, but I only had the one, and saved it for the bike.
