Run
Comments: I thought I'd gone to fast in this first run segment. I was afraid I was gonna be too tired for the rest of the race. I was wrong. I think I could have actually done better in the first run segment. What would you do differently?: Nothing, other than maybe go just a few seconds-per-mile faster... Transition 1
Comments: New bike. First time transitioning with it. Took about a quarter mile to get everything settled in. Threw my bike gloves to the side cuz I'd forgotten to put them on and I didn't want to throw my balance off by trying to get them on while I was riding...but overall a good transition. What would you do differently?: Focus on my equipment better. Bike
Comments: My best racing bike split yet. Can't wait to improve on it at the Escape tri in April. What would you do differently?: GO FASTER BUT NOT BE AS TIRED!! Transition 2
Comments: Very quick transition. All I did was rack the bike, take a few swigs of Gatorade and headed out. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: This run was a little less comfortable because of coming off the bike, but I still felt good. I was really surprised at how well I handled it. I remember taking a lot longer last year to get used to getting off the bike and starting to run. I'll bet I could have gone a little faster here too. What would you do differently?: Open up my pace a little bit earlier. I may have grabbed a few extra age group spots. Post race
Warm down: Drank LOTS of water, gatorade, walked around a bit, and then sat down and relaxed to catch my breath. Following Kim's finish, Renee, Jessica, Jason, Kim and I all went out for food at Village Inn. FOOD IS GOOD!!! What limited your ability to perform faster: My mind. Nothing else. Event comments: My first Duathlon. I am surprised at how much more effort it is than a triathlon at this sprint level. It's all lower body. Without the swim, the legs work twice as hard. There is really no upper body exertion here. Still, I'm thrilled. I came in 10 minutes faster than I thought I would. I was shooting for 1:30:00. Last year I never came in better than last in my age group (save for Suncoast which I was 28 of 32) and never came in above the bottom 25% in any race. This time I was at 54% in age group and 39% in the entire race. Plus with a Du being physically longer than a tri, I can count on my tri time coming WAY down from my personal best time of 1:24:23 last year to something around 1:12:00 or better...at least I HOPE so!!! Yay!!! Multisport season is here!!!!!!! WOOHOOOO!! Last updated: 2006-02-13 12:00 AM

Woke up at 0530, got the bike ready, put on bike shorts and jersey. Took my caffeine supplement and vitamins. Kim came and met me and we drove out to the park. Upon arrival, we picked up our race packets, got our numbers put on our shorts and bikes, and then brought the bikes to transition. This being Kim's first multisport event, I helped her with the bike rack and stuff like that, gave her pointers on how to transition more quickly (something I myself need to work on this year, although my transitions today were fairly good), and told her to remember where her bike was. After that we met up with Renee and Jessica who had come to watch the race, and my friend Jason who'd never been to a multisport race before.
Jogged a little, just to get the legs feeling warm. Not much else...stretched minimally.
