Pre-race routine:

Got up early around 5 a.m. ate my banana, 2 pieces of toast and drank a glass of water. Stretched and took my time getting out the door.
Event warmup:

I had an unexpected warm-up run around nationwide looking for an ATM because i showed up to the event without cash... not going to do that again. I had to be on the statehouse steps at 0645 for a picture so I ended up having to jog from the parking lot to the state house (about a mile) but it felt really good! Unfortunately, I was stuck waiting for the next 40 minutes to take off. I tried to run in place and bounce around to stay warm. I did a Clif Shot 15 minutes prior to official start.

Comments:

I felt pretty good throughout the run. This was my first race so I was started way in the back. My chip start was 5603/7925 and i finished 1135/7925, so i was doing some serious passing where i could. I felt like the walkers should have to start behind all the runners as they were walking 5-6 wide and really slowed me and some others down.

The first 3 miles I was on cloud 9. I was cruising and feeling really really good despite having a cold and being sick most of the week. I was very happy with my pace and I got into a good rhythm all the way to mile 10. I was around 80 minutes 30 seconds and I decided to slip into an available john. Big mistake. I only took about a minute but when I came out I had a very difficult time getting up to speed and back to my pace. Additionally, the next two miles felt like they were at a slight grade and my joints started hurting. I kept pushing and fell back into a better pace with 1 mile to go and cruised into the finish.
What would you do differently?:

I would not stop so far into the race. But being it is my first race i can't complain too much.
Post race
Warm down:

I ate a banana, bagel, and drank some chocolate milk and water. I kept myself covered with my space blanket and did some stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I had some soreness in my foot from tendonitis and also was fighting a chest cold.

Event comments:

I liked the corral system, but they need to give an option for someone who doesn;t have an "official" time. I feel like the crowd cost me some minutes (mostly the walkers) and i believe that they should have to have their own corral. Other than that it was a great experience

3 mi at 22:04 (according to my watch, 7:21 min/mi) 10k at 49:29 (7:58 min/mi) chip time 10 mile at 80:38 (according to my watch, 8:04 min/mi)
Course: Very easy run. Not much grade at all and most parts were wide enough for the runners. There was one street i did not like because it was crowned and i felt like i was running on the side of a hill, which is bad for me since I suppinate already.
