Pre-race routine:

First triathlon, so no routine, my girlfriends and I got up early, got there early, talked ourselves up! Just battled first race nerves until the start. Definately battled intimidation due to the fact that we were like one of the only swimmers with no wetsuits on...
Event warmup:

did my insanity warm up just to get warm in general, it was pretty chilly out there. Mostly just reminding myself why I was doing this :)
Swim
  • 17m 58s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was a nervous wreck about swimming in the cold water. But after a min or freestyle, I didn't even notice it. I was never really able to get my head under the water and get into a good breathing rythm maybe that is just due to the nerves and anxiety?
What would you do differently?:

More open water swims and get a tri wetsuit to train in.
Transition 1
  • 02m 51s
Comments:

Not sure why this took so long, but I was a lil shellshocked after the swim.
What would you do differently?:

get a trisuit and bike shoes.
Bike
  • 41m 21s
  • 15.53 miles
  • 22.53 mile/hr
Comments:

I trained on a mountain bike and I dreaded every training ride on that pos. But I borrowed a really nice road bike for the race and it was AMAZING.
What would you do differently?:

Buy myself a nice road bike to train on and race on.
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

I pushed my bike ride hard so when I jumped off the bike I really could not feel most of my legs!
What would you do differently?:

nothing, I don't think this transition could possibly go any faster.
Run
  • 25m 23s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

I was a little worried about keep that pace, since I could barely feel my legs after the bike ride, but my girlfriend and I chatted the whole time and cheered on other runners and really it was my best 5k run ever.
What would you do differently?:

keep working on my hills and speed runs
Post race
Warm down:

walking on clouds

What limited your ability to perform faster:

hmmmm, just the newness I suppose, the swim, well that is going to take some open water practice, the bike, if the roads had been dry I wouldn't have worried about slowing down so much.

Event comments:

I'll be doing this one every year!
