Age Group Rank = 41/
Pre-race routine:

Powerbar for breakfast with half-bottle of EFS sports drink to wash it down. Tried to stay warm on a cold and very windy day.
Event warmup:

None, which could be why my swim time stunk.
Swim
  • 10m 23s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 22s / 100 yards
Comments:

Time was well below expectation, didn't feel bad just lethargic. Couldn't quite find the fast rhythm, kick was half-hearted. No excuses, simply didn't execute.
What would you do differently?:

Perhaps a warm-up in the pool beforehand would have helped "wake up" the body. Mentally get in the game.
Transition 1
  • 02m 36s
Comments:

It's a relatively long run from inside the pool to the outdoor transition area in the parking lot, so T1 time was respectable.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 33m 3s
  • 10 miles
  • 18.15 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike fitness was better than last year, felt much stronger. Strong winds negated much of that, basically a wash compared to last years time. Still quite happy with bike effort given the cold temps and winds.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 02m 38s
Comments:

T2 was a comedy of goofs. Waited too long to slip feet out of shoes. The last 100 feet to the transition line was a confused mess as I slowed way down to give me time to slip feet out. Completely passed my rack spot during the run back with the bike, lost 20ish seconds trying to figure out where the heck my stuff had gone.
What would you do differently?:

Prepare for dismount earlier, and remember where my spot is.
Run
  • 23m 33s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

Good solid run, helped make up for the swim. Good pace and cadence, first 1/2 mile was rough due to everything being numb from the wind and cold while on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

None, wait a couple minutes and wind/cold temps took care of that.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Me, nothing more nothing less. Well, less wind would have been nice.

Event comments:

Great race for beginners, and a good tune-up race for the beginning of the season. Definitely recommend.
