Swim
  • 17m 50s
  • 1094 yards
  • 01m 38s / 100 yards
Transition 1
  • 02m 11s
Comments:

I got out onto the bike course, and had trouble getting my stupid feet into my bike shoes...
What would you do differently?:

Practice, practice, practice with transitions, especially dropping my feet into my already clipped in bike shoes
Bike
  • 51m 4s
  • 18.64 miles
  • 21.90 mile/hr
Comments:

I cramped up in my left calf and had to slow down for several minutes to get back on track. The cramp cleared, and I was fine for the remainder of the bike segment. This cost me time for sure.
What would you do differently?:

More salt, more fluids on the bike
Transition 2
  • 02m 5s
Comments:

When I got to the spot to put on my running shoes, BOTH calf muscles locked up. This caused me to have to wait and rub them out. Also, the Quick laces I was using for my shoes are going to be HISTORY. I am going back to YANKTZ....I had to stop twice to get my shoes tight enough on my feet.
What would you do differently?:

Stretch my calf muscles on the last mile of the bike to get them loose before T2
Run
  • 44m 19s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

It took me a mile to get into a decent rhythem. After that, I was fine. Unfortunetely, there was no gatorade on the run, just water. I didn't remember that being the case last year.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

I had a very sore throat (and still do), which I attribute to last Thursday nights ocean swim. I was not at 100% physically. I also didn't have my nemesis "Johnnie Cooper" racing, and of coarse, that would have pushed me to go harder.

Event comments:

Not sure I will do this race again. It is a challenging bike course, but the run is sort of lame (not a closed course). I was 13th in my AG last year, and moved up to 10th this year. I am the Senior Citizen now in the 45-49 AG (I will be 50 in August). I am looking forward to "aging up"!!
