Event warmup:

have oatmeal and hot tea for breakfast, take a gatorade to sip on the way there. Leave house at 6:10am, arrive around 6:25am. Parking easy and close to starting line. Hit porta pot first thing (before LONG line forms) and run around the top parking lot 3-4 times. Line up between 1:40 and 1:45 pace groups. In Wave 3.

Comments:

Like the chip start. Tried to start with Wave 3, think I ended up moving with the crowd in Wave 2. Kept it steady on the way out, watching my heart rate and keeping near a couple that seemed to have same pace as me. Thought there would be water every mile, turns out the first water was between 2 and 3 miles (seemed like FOREVER). Water again at mile 4, 6, 8 and 9 (I think is how it went). Game plan was to take it easy first 3 miles, take half a gel at mile 4 and again at mile 8. Drink gatorade at every stop and walk the water stops. I could feel the heat on the way out and used the water to pour in on my head and later on my chest also. Really helped keep me cool. At mile 6, I picked up the pace and for the last 1.5 miles, I really pushed it. I had paced sufficiently that while it was pretty hard, I was able to sprint the last couple hundred yards, uphill. It was pretty cool passing so many people at the very end - lots of them were walking up the hill.
What would you do differently?:

probably take my own gatorade - although, I think I actually performed better, since I didn't fall back to my normal routine. I walked less and may have made better time.
Post race
Warm down:

walked slowly through the finishing shoot - got bottle of water and ice cold towel (put it around my neck). Got a slice of watermelon - - delicious!! Got in line for premium - - - really stinks that we were not told it was UNISEX sizing until AFTER providing our sizes. My size SMALL is HUMONGOUS and not something I will ever be able to wear. MAJOR SCREW UP. Stood in line with all the other women who needed an XS and were told sorry, there are no more XS. Nice..... Gave away my beer tickets and headed to the car to go home and get into dry clothes. Had broght dry clothes with me, to change and go to the zoo, but decided to go home and eat a good breakfast and take a nap.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not training for hills - probably would have made my climbing faster, but I was very focused on heart rate and just pretended to be climbing stairs with little tiny treads - -worked for me.....

Event comments:

Really disappointed in the sizing of the race premium. Since I signed up early, I ordered a womans small - only to find out that later that the premium was UNISEX sizing, which means I need an XS. Could not change. There were a LOT of unhappy women. Most of the men who needed to size down were okay. Would have given this race a 5, but with the price of admission - they need to get the premium right - or be willing to reorder and exchange for proper sizing!
