Overall Rank = 336/556
Age Group = M40-44
Age Group Rank = 43/55
Pre-race routine:

Banana and most of a protein bar.
Event warmup:

Not much of anything
Swim
  • 12m 43s
  • 528 yards
  • 02m 25s / 100 yards
Comments:

I should have had a faster time on this. I'm still zig-zagging too much. Got elbowed in face in the first minute, but no cool bruises to show for it.
What would you do differently?:

Sight more, stay closer to the buoys.
Transition 1
  • 05m 9s
Comments:

When I saw this time I thought, what in the heck was I doing, having a picnic?!? First time de-wetsuiting plus I ride in my running shoes. Maybe it's time to investigate other footwear options for both biking and running.
What would you do differently?:

Try different footwear that doesn't require so much time to don.
Bike
  • 45m 58s
  • 12.5 miles
  • 16.32 mile/hr
Comments:

The cross winds were nasty. My pace was better than last year, but I was hoping to make up more time in this section. It dropped my AG position from the swim by 15 places. I do feel like I used the gears to my full advantage. I was a lot more aggressive about keeping and gaining positions, too.
What would you do differently?:

Need to be more aerodynamic. Other than that, I'm not sure how to deal with the crosswinds except to muscle through it.
Transition 2
  • 01m 41s
Comments:

Legs buckled coming off the bike. That was unexpected, but luckily not the disaster it could have been. Shoes already on. I think I did great here, it's just a pretty good distance between bike exit and run start.
What would you do differently?:

Rack the bike more smoothly.
Run
  • 30m 43s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt pretty good in the run, though I'm curious what my lap info would be. I think miles one and three were well below average pace, but mile 2 was well above. I felt like I was doing as best as I could, leaving not much in the gas tank.
What would you do differently?:

Continue to improve my pace in race conditions.
Post race
Warm down:

Spent most of the time looking for my family in the crowd. Next time we'll have to come up with a meeting place. :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Aerodynamics on the bike and getting a smooth transition in T1. If my T1 had simply been average, I would have moved up 4 postions in my AG. Arrrgh.

Event comments:

Like the course, hate the crosswinds, but that's just the island. Post-race food was a bit meager compared to others I've been to. I really liked the results table where you could get your time. Much better than crowding around something posted. I'll definitely be doing this again!
