Pre-race routine:

Got up and had some slidge at 6am. I didn't come up with sludge but I can't rember where I saw it. I make it with about a cup of lowfat raspberry granola, 2 scoops chocolate whey protien, and 1 1/2 cups milk. It looks like sludge but tastes like desert, high protien and complex carbs, works for me. Got to race site got marked and set up transistion. Transition was in gravel???, but actually didn't notiv=ce it during the race.
Event warmup:

Jogged up some hills and stretched, this was a reverse tri so the run was first.
Swim
  • 12m 31s
  • 400 yards
  • 03m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

What a mess. Since this was last and they started all the AG men first, clydes, athena, and AG women next and teams last I ended up in the pool with the slow mens AG's bulk of the women and the fast teams. Half the people were walking in the pool, others were swimming over top of me, couldn't get a decent rhythm going. Had to swim 2 lengths in each lane, duck under the ropes to switch lanes for 4 laps, get out of the pool run to the other end and do it again. From the transition to the pool and then to the finish line was probably 1/4 mile run in total on carpet laid out to run on, so realistically probably a 10 min swim.
What would you do differently?:

I'm not upset with the swim, just doesn't reflect reality and the work I feel I put into it.
Transition 1
  • 01m 10s
Comments:

T1 was between run and bike. Went fine I took a gel flask with watered down hammer gel in it on the run and drank coming into T1, washed down with water in T1, changed shoes and hopped on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

I guess I can learn to put shoes on the bike but, having watched several races and seeing what can happen coming into and out of transition I'm probably okay with an extra 20 seconds.
Bike
  • 35m 35s
  • 10.15 miles
  • 17.11 mile/hr
Comments:

NO ONE passed me, 35 out of 141, pretty proud of that. Where I train has a lot to do with it, lots of hills and wind so grinding the hills is common. I like the bike.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

T2 was bike to swim, fine no problems
Run
  • 35m 55s
  • 3.6 miles
  • 09m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

I'm happy, broke a 10 min mile and improved significantly over the first race. I think the run split is supposed to be faster than the bike though! I'm sore from the run. My left foot and shins are sore, hopefully it goes away.
What would you do differently?:

Still need a lot more run training.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and drank a bunch of water. Played 18 holes in the afternoon with my cheering section (wife, thanks Angie).

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Run and swim, I'm working on it. May have a chance for some actual coaching in these areas so yeah.

Event comments:

Swim needs to change, course was challenging and I had fun.
