Comments: Started front of the wave. Felt really good. Started off with very fast pace and settled into my 5K pace. What would you do differently?: Not much, I am very happy with this start Transition 1
Comments: A good transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I thought it was a good. Out of transition, I was 19th overall, so I made up ground during transition. Bike
Comments: As usual, my weak bike segment. Also, I dropped my water bottle at mile 16. I stopped and went back for it. It cost me a bit of time. Not much though. What would you do differently?: Looking back, this bike segment was 10 minutes faster than my previous Oly bike segment, but still 10 minutes too slow. I have the slowest bike segment in the top 68 overall competitors and top 23 age groupers. 8 minutes faster on the bike and I can break top 10 AG. Transition 2
Comments: 2nd fastest transition in AG and 5th fastest overall. I have practiced this transition alot. What would you do differently?: Nothing, limited only by distance I had to run with bike. Run
Comments: I felt really good coming off the bike. I settled into my 10K pace early and was feeling good. On mile 4, I had some trouble with a Gu packet and walked a few strides and included the turnaround. Mile 5 and 6 started feeling the heat and the burn in my legs. Having trouble maintaining pace. What would you do differently?: I haven't really trained for a Du and I don't know if I can say for sure that the 5K start played into my positive splits on this run. It was getting warm, and I did dump a water down my back. It was only 16 seconds slower than my 10K PR, so cant complain. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and drank 2 powerbar endurance drinks, a protein recovery shake, and a 16oz coffee. Ate a few cookies. I kept moving for about 20 minutes after the race before I finally sat down. What limited your ability to perform faster: I feeble bike segment as usual. Parked RV at race start the night before. Got up at 5:45 AM. Drank 2 scoop Perpetuem and 24oz bottle mix. I was not sure that to wear, running shirt or bike jersey since I was not swimming. I went with the short sleeve bike jersey.
Dynamic stretching followed by a 5 minute walk, 10 minute jog, 4 strides.
