Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 3:30 am. Drove out to the park at 4:30 am. Body marking and transition setup, then met up with other Team Fighters and hung out until the swim start. I was in wave 7, scheduled for 7:29 am. An early morning shower caused a 20 minute delay.
Swim
  • 31m 55s
  • 1094 yards
  • 02m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

Stayed calm and steady. Tried to keep consistent and sight regularly. No goggle malfunction like the practice swim.
What would you do differently?:

Next time I'd concentrate on picking up the pace. I think I was pretty slow overall.
Transition 1
  • 04m 46s
Comments:

Wasn't really trying to go fast. Tried to run to the transition area, but once there I took my time getting on my gear. I wanted to make sure that I didn't forget anything. I kept it simple and I had everything ready to go.
What would you do differently?:

Try to pick up the pace
Bike
  • 1h 18m
  • 17.5 miles
  • 13.46 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

I forgot about the potty stop. I'll need to strategize about how to avoid this next time.
Transition 2
  • 05m 38s
Comments:

Wasted time trying to figure out what to put on and what to leave behind.
What would you do differently?:

Visualize what I need to do before I get into transition.
Run
  • 43m 24s
  • 3.4 miles
  • 12m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

Happy with the run, considering I walked most of it. Tried not to overdo it, since my knees were bothering me.
What would you do differently?:

Will spend this year building up strength in both knees.
Post race
Warm down:

Located my husband and kids, caught up with my other Iron Girls and hugged, snapped photos and smiled until my cheeks hurt. Pulled out the frozen bottes of gatorade that had partially defrosted in my bag and cooled off.

Event comments:

I had a wonderful time and will definitely do this again next year. I did even better than I had hoped. I was aiming for a 3:00 finish and I beat it by 16 minutes. I can't complain.

Course: Very hilly course. I ended up passing a lot of people. I was surprised by how many had such a hard time on the hills. My approach was to get into granny gear for the killer hills and to power through them without hesitation. I killed about 5 mins. waiting for the port a john at the halfway point.
