Event warmup:

Quick swim out and back. Lots of chatting with good people who I haven't seen since early last season.
Swim
  • 08m 35s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

Had to put on my big boy tri suit today... Started with the Elite men.
What would you do differently?:

Hard to keep writing this in... I need to improve my swim. I would have been sub 1 hour if I could have cut 2 minutes from my swim.
Transition 1
  • 01m 39s
Comments:

Good T1 but slow for me. T area was set up slightly different from years past and I was on the far end. I took my time a bit more than I should have. Could have saved at least 30 seconds here!!
Bike
  • 28m 5s
  • 10 miles
  • 21.36 mile/hr
Comments:

I went out strong and maintained a solid pace. I improved my race position by about 7 places from the swim. I held a nearly perfect cadence and felt great throughout the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Hard to complain about this bike. There were a couple small hills that I probably could have pushed a little more to keep a better rhythm.
Transition 2
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

A good T2 but wasted another 20 seconds.
What would you do differently?:

Should have been a little faster!
Run
  • 22m 19s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

Man, I could have had a solid run today. I started out on the planned pace (7:30) and fell off when I thought I could see the race leaders. I knew I couldn't catch them... I settled. Noted my slower pace and picked it up. This happened 2 too many times. Near the turn around I found out that the 'lead group' I thought I was following, wasn't the lead group - they were the group just behind the lead group. At the turn around I pushed my pace beyond where it should have been but at that point I was too late. I maintained the faster pace without a problem (I should have been at 6:30-45 the whole run).
What would you do differently?:

I should have pushed the pace when I felt comfortable. There was another minute + that I lost.
Post race
Warm down:

Unfortunately I didn't leave it all on the course. When I crossed the finish line and saw my time, I sulked.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My mind was my biggest limiter today. Even with my swim I could have cut off almost 2:30 from my race.

Event comments:

South Lansing Community Development always does a great job organizing this event. From the start times, course layout and volunteers - it's ALWAYS run on par with the best event organizers!
