Run
Comments: I switched to minimalist shoes back in Feb and I'm just now getting back into racing. I felt great - not hitting it too hard, but not holding back. Overall I was pleased with the first part of the run - the course was a little longer than a 5 K though - closer to 3.5 miles. What would you do differently?: Maybe bring my handheld water bottle - I should hydrate a little more knowing that it's not just a 5K. Transition 1
Comments: Switched to Easy-Laces after my last Duathlon - saved me a ton of time not having to lace up the Evo's - they are too snug to just slip into, so these new laces made all the difference. Bike
Comments: Haven't been on the bike as much as I'd like so I didn't hit it as good as I wanted to. Transition 2
Comments: Much quicker - not too many people in transition when I got there and I had a good spot right near the entrance. Run
Comments: Nice and easy in the shade, saved some for the hill at the end but ended up power walking it (along with everybody else). Just didn't have enough to run up it. What would you do differently?: Hmmm - probably drink even more on the bike - I was getting pretty thirsty and it was getting hotter. Post race
Warm down: Not much - walked around, cheered on some friends, had a banana and some water. What limited your ability to perform faster: Still getting used to minimalist running (but loving it). Event comments: Nice job for their first year on this race - I'll definitely be back. Last updated: 2011-05-02 12:00 AM

Light breakfast, early arrival at the venue to check things out.
Ran the 2nd part of the course to get a feel for the finish so I'd know when to kick it in.
