Pre-race routine:

Stayed at the in-laws for the night and woke up at 5am. I had homemade waffles this morning. Usually I've had Eggo waffles before races but I'm going to try the homemade before every race. My body seemed to like the fuel.
Event warmup:

Did 20 minutes of light running. As I was running some nasty looking clouds came rolling in and started sprinkling a little bit. By the time I got out on the bike leg the rain was gone.
Swim
  • 12m 52s
  • 600 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swimming has always been my weak link and this winter concentrated really hard on improving my swim stroke. It paid off. I was very calm during the swim. There were four of us in the lane and after talking it was decided I would be the last out. This was not the right choice because I ended up passing all of them.
What would you do differently?:

Be more confident in my predicted swim time so I would start first.
Transition 1
  • 02m 1s
Comments:

This is my third time at this race and I always have a hard time deciding if I need to wear long sleeves or not. I decided to put on my Under Armour compression shirt. It is very challenging putting on a compression shirt on a wet body. I was glad I wore it though during the bike. It would have been really cold without it.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 37m 50s
  • 13 miles
  • 20.62 mile/hr
Comments:

I was not expecting much on the bike since my first outdoor ride was just the day before. We've had horribly poor spring weather and I have only ridden inside. I was pleasently suprised with my bike segment.
What would you do differently?:

I will get more comfortable on my new tri bike and actually use it in a race.
Transition 2
  • 00m 54s
Comments:

Pretty much a perfect T2. Did not forget to take my helmet off like last year.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 20m 20s
  • 2.8 miles
  • 07m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

This was a great run! I was able to start fast and lower the hammer mid way through. The sun came out during the run and I got a little hot with my long sleeved Under Armour.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Ate bananas and drank Gatorade.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Minimal bike training. Since I'm in marathon training the bike training was a little on the back burner.

Event comments:

This is a great start the year tri. I will continue to do this every year.
