Swim
Comments: I wasn't prepared for how freaking cold the water felt. It took my breath away and it was very hard to calm down and breath normally. Couldn't get going smoothly until the second lap. Looked like lots of others had the same issues. Lots of people stopping and treading water, breaststroke, walking through the shallows, etc. Very few people took a swim warm up. The TT start was well organized. Still a few packs and some congestion, but not bad. Felt like a horrible swim, but the time was close to what I had predicted. I wonder if the course is really 700m. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a bit shorter than that. The swim time also includes a fairly long run to T1 and maybe T1 itself. What would you do differently?: Swim a little before the start! Transition 1
Comments: 35s according to my watch. Not reported in the results, but I think the time was added into the bike. Not sure. What would you do differently?: Nothing, very smooth. Bike
Comments: ~23.1 mph, ~29:40 according to the bike. Either T1 or T2 or both were folded into the bike time. I blew right past the first turn around and had to backtrack to get back on course. Oops. Felt comfortable pushing a little on the bike because I felt confident I would have the legs for the run after having had a fast 5K in the Coffman YMCA race a couple weeks ago. What would you do differently?: Not much. A really good ride except for missing the first turn around. Transition 2
Comments: Flying dismount, skipped the socks. Knocked the bike rack over for the second time in as many races this year. I really need to be more careful. I think they just aren't so stable when there aren't any other bikes on there. Luckily a couple of volunteers were there to prop it up for me. 25 seconds according the the watch. I would like to know if this went into the bike or run split. What would you do differently?: Don't knock over the rack! Run
Comments: Felt strong. Got passed by one of those really fast HFP guys close to the 1st mile marker. Tried to hang with him as long as possible. Made it to about 2.2 miles before I had to ease up. Hope I didn't piss him off! I was really hoping for a 20 minute 5K and figured that I would get it if I held his pace. Maybe next time. What would you do differently?: Nothing. This is an excellent time for me. Post race
Warm down: Walking around, snacking, watching others finsih, watch the 5K start. What limited your ability to perform faster: Wasn't prepared for the water temp. Event comments: Another good HFP event. Water was cold, but OK once you get started. Just do a swim warm up before the start! Last updated: 2011-05-29 12:00 AM

Ride a few miles, run a few minutes. Should have had a swim, but didn't.
