Pre-race routine:

Biked to race from house. Got to race shortly after 6:00 since I wasn't able to pick up stuff night before. Quickly got my number and racked my bike. Worked out good because I was able to walk around transition and talk with some folks I know.
Event warmup:

Went down to water around 7:45 and swam out about 75m and back. Felt like neoprene strap for my chip was going to fall off. Stopped in water and made sure it was fastened securely to my ankle. Need to pick up one of my own.
Swim
  • 08m 49s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started with elite wave. Ran into water and dove in. As I sighted for the buoys it was disappointing to see how I was slipping behind! Definitely need to spend more time in the water and improve the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Swim faster!
Transition 1
  • 00m 52s
Comments:

Didn't swim with a wetsuit so getting in and out of T1 was quick. This was my second race with shoes clipped in on bike. This worked out well. Little tricky with couple quick turns getting out of Hawk Island Park. Got in my shoes in pretty quick time.
What would you do differently?:

Slip into shoes quicker after mount line.
Bike
  • 26m 14s
  • 9.94 miles
  • 22.73 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt strong on the new bike. Passed a large group of guys around half way through the bike course and held them off.
Transition 2
  • 00m 51s
Comments:

Very happy with transition. Right calf started to cramp as I got off bike as I ran in transition. As I headed off for run legs seemed a bit flat.
Run
  • 19m 13s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

Legs felt flat. Wanted to run in the mid-18's. Passed several people. Like the out and back course layout so you can see who is ahead of you. Also allows you to cheer on other competitors.
What would you do differently?:

Have fresher legs for the run!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around talking to folks.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Slow swim!

Event comments:

Love that I can bike to the race. This was my first tri five years ago and it is awesome to see and talk to people that are doing the race for their first tri. The race is very organized and think it's pretty cool that they are going for 'green' certification. Can't wait for next years race.
