Swim
Comments: Had a good swim and T1 time is built into the swim time. Went out hard for the first 50m or so to get to the front of the pack. Tried settling into a draft but got dropped at the turn around by the leader. I was #2 in my wave and had a 1:00 lead over the person behind me so there was no opportunity to find another draft partner. What would you do differently?: Work harder to stay with the leader. He beat me by 0:26 and if I pushed to stay with him after the first turn I may have saved some energy on the swim. Transition 1
Comments: Decent and quick transition but took two pulls on my right foot to get out of the suit. What would you do differently?: Harder first pull to get out of the suit. Bike
Comments: Decent bike for me. Very happy with the pace. Hills were good and I was never in a bad gear. At times my mind wandered a bit and my focus and pace dropped slightly What would you do differently?: Stay focused to keep effort level up. Transition 2
Comments: Decent transition. Took a second to have a drink of water while putting on my running shoes. At least I remembered to take my helmet off before running. T2 time is included in the run. What would you do differently?: Drink more on the bike so it isn't needed in T2. Run
Comments: It was hot and sunny. One couple was nice enough to put their sprinkler on the road for us to run through. The run felt slow and was below what I was expecting. At aid stations I drank a couple sips and then dumped the rest on my head to stay cool. What would you do differently?: Pick up the pace a bit of I could. Post race
Warm down: Had half a bagel and stuck around for award ceremony What limited your ability to perform faster: Heat and fitness level. Didn't get much training in from Leamington to here. Event comments: A little disappointed with the organization. Self body marking requiring 6 numbers marked plus race type and age. The post race food options were limited (bagel or banana) and the prizes were pretty sub-par. A lanyard to attach to your finsher's medal that read "Gold". A flower and a lanyard for the overall winners. The course was fun and the river swim was nice, but the race as a whole experience was not what I expected for my most expensive race of the year. Woke up at the cottage at 6:00 and had some oatmeal and a coffee for breakfast. Packed the car and drove to the venue to pick up my race kit. I arrived 2 hours before the wave start and was by myself so I took my time setting up transition and wondering around.
When the Olympic race kicked off I watched that for a bit before getting my wetsuit on.
Swam about 250m with some quick sprints.
