Event warmup:

Didn't do TOO much warming up. I did get in the water and swim a tiny bit. I was glad I did - the water was a lot warmer than I expected it to be. So that was one less worry in my mind before the race.
Swim
  • 20m 56s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 23s / 100 yards
Comments:

I switched to side stroke a couple of times to "rest". I managed to not lose time this way. I was towards the beginnig of my wave - even passed some women from the wave ahead of me. :o)
What would you do differently?:

I could have used more training. But - I guess I could say that for all three legs.
Transition 1
  • 04m 7s
Comments:

I didn't wear a wetsuit. I don't have clips for my pedals. I spent a bit of time drying off my feet and putting on socks. I wanted to be sure that nothing rubbed in my shoe through the bike and run - that would have made me miserable. I was glad I took the time to do that - my sneaks were very comfy the whole time.
What would you do differently?:

I don't know that I would have done much differently.
Bike
  • 56m 46s
  • 11.5 miles
  • 12.16 mile/hr
Comments:

I used my mountain bike that my parents bought me in high school (early 90's). It worked fine - but I can see how a newer bike might have been a little easier. I was nervous about how passing people would be - but I found I had no problems. I got passed a lot - but I passed a few people, too!
Transition 2
  • 02m 11s
Comments:

Lol! I had a bit of an issue - someone put their bike in my spot, I tried to squeeze mine in, knocked two over. I felt guilty - tried to upright a bike. The I relized it was stupid and just put my kickstand down and took off (yes - I have a kick stand).
What would you do differently?:

If someone takes my spot and I knock a bike over - I won't fret about it. I will JUST GO!
Run
  • 46m 54s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 15m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

I was suprised at how wobbly my legs were when I hopped off my bike. I had done bricks before - but I never pushed as hard as I did at the race. It took me a while to get going.
What would you do differently?:

I did some trail running this past summer and was thankful for it. I would like to get out and do some more.
Post race
Warm down:

Tried not to die. Drank a beer.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I am about 50 lbs over weight. I think at this point, that is what holds me back more than anything. I am going to spend the fall/winter fixing that. I look forward to seeing how that helps me with next season!

Event comments:

It was an all-women's race. I am SO glad I went with this race. It was a lot less intimidating for me than it would have been otherwise. It was a really ENJOYABLE race. Totally want to do it again next year!!
