Pre-race routine:

Wake up at 5am. Eat Panera Whole Grain Bagel, OJ, Salt cap, multi-vitamin, Banana, Protein shake. Drove to race site and arrived at 6:45
Event warmup:

Swim
  • 15m 20s
  • 1000 yards
  • 01m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim went perfect except for the canoe that hit me twice. In his defence, I took a wider angle toward the far buoy, and I tend to swim pretty straight so I do not need to sight that often. However, he should not get in my way 2 times!
What would you do differently?:

Shark the canoe
Transition 1
  • 02m 19s
Comments:

Long run UPHILL to transition
Bike
  • 1h 13m 40s
  • 28 miles
  • 22.81 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike was tough right off the bat. After a long steep run into transition, I probably didn't calm down my HR until 7 miles into the bike. Saw a lot of drafting by a few individuals through most of the bike. Missed the turn onto Stracks Church Road because they only had a sign and no volunteer. I know I should have followed the sign, but every other turn had a volunteer and in a state of exhaustion, I had a mental hiccup.
What would you do differently?:

Draft more to prevent an unfair advantage of the other drafters.
Transition 2
  • 00m 43s
Comments:

Missed my rack so I had to rack and then walk under the bar.
What would you do differently?:

Remember my rack
Run
  • 42m 5s
  • 6 miles
  • 07m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

Really let loose on the downhills. Almost the whole course was gravel so it felt a little dangerous on multiple occaisions. I wear racing flats so feeling the rocks on my feet was not very pleasant. Focused hard on taking the shortest route possible on all the winding roads.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

light stretch, Peroneal tendonitis acted up again, so I had some ART done post race at the massage tent.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

1/2 ironman 13 days before this race

Event comments:

Dont do this race if you hate hills because the hills here hate you! Good event for the price though!
