showed up at 6, got to stretch and swim a bit, didn't bike or run
Event warmup:

swim 5 minutes
Swim
  • 27m 59s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

Really bad visibility, a lot of fog on the lake and it was super hard to spot bouy's, had to stop a few times and make sure I was going the right way, sighting was really hard
What would you do differently?:

Get goggles that don't fog
Transition 1
  • 01m 27s
Comments:

Forgot to un-velcrow my straps on my bike shoes... So I was a little surprised when I jumped on the bike to say the least. My shot blocks (200 calories) fell off in transition and I didn't notice until I was on the road. Good thing I had 1 gel pack or my day might have been different. 2ND fastest transition overall
What would you do differently?:

Tape my food better
Bike
  • 1h 13m 39s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 20.24 mile/hr
Comments:

All in all, I felt good out there, my legs didn't cramp, I kept a strong cadence and didn't have too many people pass me. It was a good course and I felt good the whole time.
What would you do differently?:

I used rubber bands on my heels to keep my shoes on and they didn't break, I might use weaker ones in the future.
Transition 2
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

almost fell on the dismount, braking and jumping off is difficult, slow down earlier
What would you do differently?:

Slow down better
Run
  • 47m 19s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

I started the run great, no cramps no stomach problems. I knew I would have to eat on the run, not my usual deal but since I dropped my shot blocks I had to put some calories down. Got a few gel packs and made sure to ingest them before water stations, fueled up and was good to go with 1 1/2 gel shots on the run. I passed a fellow age grouper at mile 3 and he never caught me, looking back on the splits he ran faster than be but died at the end. Good race technique holding off until the last 3 miles to pick up the pace.
What would you do differently?:

Get tri running shoes, race shoes that I have now can't be worn sockless and they give me blisters. Bummer, wasted money on new "race" shoes
Post race
Warm down:

walked around a bit and made sure to hydrate and intake lots of calories

What limited your ability to perform faster:

1, dropping shot blocks, 2, bike shoes need to be open, 3 running shoes being comfortable might help

Event comments:

They had a problem with the timing system and didn't get to give all the people their awards. I was a little bummed because I wanted to place in my age group so much and I thought I did, now I see I came in 3rd in my age group behind the #1 and #2 overall winners. Not bad company
