Pre-race routine:

Met with Chris, who was doing the bike leg of the relay, at 530 an carpooled to the race. Met up with our runner Rae Ann. Went to packet pick-up and set up transition with the team.
Event warmup:

Went for a little swim. Stretched and loosened up a bit.
Swim
  • 28m 16s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

Decent swim. From the times I see posted a lot of people had trouble with the south portion. It was into the waves, sun, current and wind. I felt comfortable with the pace I set and was able to maintain my stroke count consistent. Last 200 yards was a battle ground due to the sprint distance age groupers coming into us at the 1200 yard mark. Wish they had separate swims this was a bit distracting.
What would you do differently?:

Wear my tinted goggles, swim a bit to the outside to avoid the Sprint race.
Transition 1
  • 02m 15s
Comments:

Great transition. Included a near 1/4 mile run from the beach into transition. Chris made a great suggestion before the race that the person coming into transition would just hold their leg up and let the person going out remove the chip. Worked out really well.

Bike
  • 1h 09m 29s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 21.46 mile/hr
Comments:

Chris had a great race. He came into transition a bit wobbly, luckily he did not have to run. 46th best on the bike is pretty respectable.
Transition 2
  • 00m 21s
Comments:

2nd fastest overall T2.

Run
  • 44m 53s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

Rae Ann was great. She was the fastest female out there and was the deciding factor in our team's ability to be the fastest relay overall, male or female.
What would you do differently?:

Post race
Warm down:

Sat in the shade with Chris, ate a bit and watched our runner tear it up!

Event comments:

Not enough post race drinks. Water was hard to find. I ended up buying a powerade at the beach concession stand. Food was poor. They only had 2 shirt sizes that did not include any of the sizes our team needed. They also ran out of awards to give to us even though we were the fastest team we were the last to the podium. I did notice the lack of security at transition as well. Post race anyone could have gone bike "shopping" I have never seen such a lack of support in transition.
