Total Time = 1h 02m 41s
Overall Rank = 34/61
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 4/5
Pre-race routine:

packed out of hotel and ran to walmart for things we forgot. Over-oiled waffle and bagel with coffee from hotel. Got in late night prior after working full day. Not the best routine...
Event warmup:

None really; did get into water to acclimate for approx 15-20 mins, which really helped.
Swim
  • 11m 9s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 31s / 100 yards
Comments:

First open swim; choked on very salty lake water and all fundamentals broke down. Finished last 200m with head out water. Couldn't calm breath and goggles wouldn't seal/unfog.
What would you do differently?:

Get different goggles. Practice more fundamentals so it is 2nd nature to get back on track.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

No chips, so no T-times
What would you do differently?:

Not much; keep snacks in bento box so I don't have to grab them and put them in my suit pockets.
Bike
  • 27m 41s
  • 8.7 miles
  • 18.86 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike portion felt great; did not drink enough water because I was focused on making up for swim. This would hurt me later. Also, my shotbloks fell out of my suit, so I had no nutrition boost during the event (I think it would have helped the run portion). Temperatures started picking up into upper 80's during bike.
What would you do differently?:

Develop better hydration/nutrition plan. Having a back up gel would have been smarter.
Transition 2
  • 00m
What would you do differently?:

would help to buy a bucket/small stool for sitting on to change out shoes.
Run
  • 23m 51s
  • 2.49 miles
  • 09m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

Temperatures (low 90's at this point) got the best of me. No hydration/low sugar levels caused my body to stop. Walked about a dozen times; started running again every time and overheated quickly. Good water station setup helped
What would you do differently?:

HYDRATE!
Post race
Warm down:

walk / water / shower

What limited your ability to perform faster:

heat; first time in open water; goggle failure; dehydrated

Event comments:

Decent event; would like chip timing / big clock to track times
