Pre-race routine:

Up early quick breakfast and then over to pick up dad and start the trek to champaign.
Event warmup:

A little jogging and a little swimming
Swim
  • 08m 37s
  • 328 yards
  • 02m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim time is inflated due to the almost 2 minutes it took for me to get from the pool to the transition area. It is a very long run. Over all happy with the swim. I have not been doing much of that in the last month. Goal for the off season is to work on drills and get faster.
Transition 1
  • 02m 24s
Comments:

Not a bad transition, little slow due to the cold weather and having an extra long sleeve shirt to put on. Also lost a little time because the transition boxes could not hold a tire of my size (cyclocross tire, not sure what the poor mnt bikers did)
What would you do differently?:

I have only had two races with my bike shoes and i need to practice getting them on faster.
Bike
  • 52m 48s
  • 14.5 miles
  • 16.48 mile/hr
Comments:

Fairly nice course, mostly flat except for one minor hill. Wind pushed nicely and the way out and beat me up pretty good on the way in. I was hoping for a faster bike time but am none the less happy with my time.
What would you do differently?:

I need to get an aero bike to get lower in the wind.
Transition 2
  • 01m 52s
Comments:

A little slower than usual but I cramped almost instantly off the bike due to the cold. Again had a little trouble getting my bike to stay upright.
Run
  • 40m 48s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 13m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

I was cramping really badly to start but somebody decided to have the run out take you past the finish line and all the people. I couldnt bring myself to walk there. I toughed it out and ended up walking about .5 in. After that I struggeld to find my rythem. I felt like I walked a lot but still ended up with 13min/miles
What would you do differently?:

Spend all winter running and then running some more and when I am sick of running, run some more. I need to suck it up and put in the miles.
Post race
Warm down:

Went in to the locker room and changed into some dry warm clothes. Got some bread to munch on and then went out to find tony and dustin and cheer them in.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Cold weather to start and not running enough, especially after biking.

Event comments:

A fun way to the end the season.
