Pre-race routine:

this was my first ever triathlon so just went with the flow and tried to keep my nerves in check!!
Swim
  • 29m
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

Presuming I could only swim a length of front crawl at the start of the year I was delighted to swim the whole race front crawl and finish with a time of 32 mins including the transition to bike. Only mistake I made ws following another swimmer rather than sighting only to find that they had had gone completely off course!!!
What would you do differently?:

more sighting and not following anyone else!
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

all went smoothly apart from having to pause as I got to the road as a great big lorry was going past.
Bike
  • 1h 20m
  • 24.85 miles
  • 18.64 mile/hr
Comments:

kept a steady pace as wanted to keep some in the tank for run - also with it being my first tri I had no idea how O should feel at each stage. Having cycled the course a few times I was very familiar with it and managed a pb. (although still a time I would like to improve on)
What would you do differently?:

possibley cycled harder.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

transition went smoothly although when I got off my bike I struggled to get on of my shoes off the pedals - nearly very embarrassing.
Run
  • 49m
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

started slow and slowly increased pace as I got closer to the finish - chuffed to be over taking people and suddenly realised that I was going to break the 2:45 mark (my target had been 3 hrs) so started pushing it harder. I did feel slightly sick in the first half due to drinking to much sweet energy drink whilst on the bike - maybe should have had more water and maybe some gels as well.
What would you do differently?:

less energy drink maybe more gel
Post race
Warm down:

a few light stretches followed by taking the kids on a bike ride!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

uncertainty over how much energy I needed in the tank to complete the course.

Event comments:

very well organised, friendly, informal and a great atmosphere - definately doing it next year.
