Comments:

Satisfied with my longest competitive swim; breathing and HR were good
What would you do differently?:

Sighting and drafting could have been better
Transition 1
  • 03m 16s
Comments:

Put shoes on in transition; took time to ensure I had everthing before long ride
What would you do differently?:

Learn to ride sockless and with shoes already in pedals
Bike
  • 2h 54m 24s
  • 56 miles
  • 19.27 mile/hr
Comments:

Good, steady performance (leaving something in the tank for final 24 miles) for first 32 miles; last 24 were difficult; developed servere GI problems last 20 miles; wanted to finish in under 3 hours.
What would you do differently?:

Gone to the bathroom!! Ruined the rest of the race because I didn't.
Transition 2
  • 03m 31s
Comments:

Took time in T2 as the GI problems were taking a toll
What would you do differently?:

Gone to the bathroom
Run
  • 2h 19m 4s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

Had to walk/run first 4 miles due to GI problems; found port-o-john at mile 4 and used it. Started feeling better about mile 5 so started running more and walking less; started feeling nauseous at mile 10 - had to walk more; last 3 miles, developed painful blisters on feet
What would you do differently?:

Gone to the bathroom sooner
Post race
Warm down:

Sat in shade to cool down; not feeling well at finish; 20oz of Recoverite, water, gatorade, carbs

What limited your ability to perform faster:

GI problems developed on the bike; blisters at end of run

Event comments:

Great race and will do it again when last 24 miles of road is paved - road condition too lousy to enjoy; will use bathroom when needed and not try to hold it; goal was to break 6 hours in this first 1/2 IM; overall pleased with time but know I can break 5 1/2 hours in same conditions with no GI problems.
