Pre-race routine:

Got to the race venue pretty early, around 6:30 and set up my bike in transition. Walked around, talked to a few people I know from other races and mentally prepared for the race.
Event warmup:

Carried photography gear back and forth for the fiance.
Swim
  • 17m 59s
  • 800 meters
  • 02m 15s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim was average. This is my slowest discipline so I just need to keep working on it. The water level was low because we haven't had rain in months but it was manageable. Men started first and we started 3 minutes after them. Due to the low water level the beginning of the swim was slower but not terrible. The water was warm and seemed pretty clean.
What would you do differently?:

Be a better swimmer! lol
Transition 1
  • 00m 35s
Comments:

My transitions are usually fast so I was happy with this one; I was 3rd overall.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, got my helmet on and shoes on quickly. I'll eventually learn how to jump on my bike and get into my shoes....but haven't gotten there yet.
Bike
  • 51m 28s
  • 15.5 miles
  • 18.07 mile/hr
Comments:

I enjoyed the bike leg, I was by myself for quite a while and then started passing some guys. Didn't get passed by any women which was good. The course was nice, some rolling hills, did this one on my road bike so it would have been nice to have a tri bike to get more aero. I'm glad I hydrated well b/c it was starting to get hot by the time I got back to transition. Came into transition with Hilde and knew I had to beat her out of transition! :)
What would you do differently?:

Have a tri bike so I'd be a little faster.
Transition 2
  • 00m 28s
Comments:

I'm the idiot who ran out of transition with my helmet on! Luckily, my family was nice enough to let me know so I handed my soon to be mother in law my helmet and started chase to get the girl in front of me.
What would you do differently?:

TAKE MY HELMET OFF!
Run
  • 25m 20s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 09s  min/mile
Comments:

When I started the run (after I took my helmet off! ah!) several people told me I was the second woman. I didn't know if that was correct but I knew I had to push to see if I could catch whoever was in front of me. The first mile was hot and painful but I got into a rhythm when I hit the trail and started to feel good. About 3/4 of a mile from the finish I rounded a corner and saw Anne in front of me and knew I could probably catch her. The guy shooting the documentary got a great shot of my chase down. I caught up to Anne about 1/2 mile from the finish and I kept kicking. It was nice to win a my first tri, even if it was a very small race!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, it was fun to chase someone down and win.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around for a second, then went to grab a camera and help "shoot" (take pictures, my fiance is a race photographer) the rest of the racers finishing.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Could probably lose some weight and get faster on the bike and run.

Event comments:

This is a great small race. The venue isn't huge or flashy but it was a nice bike course and I enjoyed the run through the woods. It would also have helped if it would actually rain here so the lake would be higher. Hopefully Simon will do this race again!

The last mile went down the road for a little bit and then back to the same path as before on the grass towards the finish line.
