Pre-race routine:

I wasn't really sure how long it would take to get to the park and knew parking was very limited so I left at 0600. Race started at 0830.

Pulled into a gas station outside the park around 0630 to throw down a deuce. Picked up a bottle of gatorade and.... a copy of BUSTED!!! i've never seen this before. its a newspapaer type deal that shows all the arrests in several north georgia counties over the past week or two. i was planning on watching one of the kiddos movies while waiting for the race to start, but this might work instead. and only 1 dollar! the nice lady behind the counter gave me the low-down... she enjoys reading BUSTED because she gets to see what her high school friends are up to. she also let me know i was lucky to get a copy because they sell out pretty quick.

this is gonna be a good day.

got to the race site, asked the parking guy if i was the first. he said nope, at least one other person admitted they were a racer not a volunteer. no trouble parking.

threw in robin hood (old disney version.. best version) and just hung out. the lot filled awfully quick. good call getting here early.

Event warmup:

i've been in GA about a year and a half but haven't met to many BT folks. that changed quick this morning. met a whole pile of em'. and they are just as awesome in person as they are up here on BT. but, someone needs to buy them all a steak, 5 pounds of potatoes and a couple kegs... they're a bunch of skinny stick figures!!!

Comments:

man, this was a fun race. i've run part of the course one time a few months ago so i didn't really know what to expect. i figured just hang out towards the back then slowly move up if i felt good.

the plan seemed to work. i don't think i got passed at all the last several miles. that's pretty cool. i let it fly on the downhill sections... perhaps not the smartest but i didn't really care, it was too much fun.

almost fell over while talking with mrs brown dog. but other than that, no issues falling down, tripping , etc...

What would you do differently?:

run more. run up on those trails more. lose some weight.

it poured the night before and was raining when i left for the race so we decided i'd go solo with no better half and kiddos. i hate that, but probably smart never having raced here before and the weather. next year though....
Post race
Warm down:

ate a big plate of awesome eggs and biscuits. walked around. found out there was a raffle tent. i won a cool ass coffee cup! tracked down chris to say whats up. great guy, again just like on here.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my beer gut. checked in north of 230 today.

Event comments:

This was easily one of the funnest races i've done. i freakin' love running in the woods! sold out in 2 hours this years, i bet even faster next year.
