Pre-race routine:

Taped the wheel cover back on the rear wheel. Doesn't fit the greatest, but went with it anyway.
Drove down with Monica, as it was her birthday and I had planned a trip for us for after the race.
Event warmup:

Couple mile bike to test out wheel cover. About 1/2 mile jog. It was humid and warmer that it had been recently. Even during light jog, I never felt like I could settle in and get breathing back under control.

Comments:

Started with James and Preston. Wanted to keep James in reach and wanted to put a little time into Preston. Both started out fast and in front of me. I looked down and we were running about 6:15-6:30 pace, I knew I couldn't sustain that, but was wanting to wait until Preston slowed down. Only he didn't, he kept running away. I managed to keep him insight, but never could get back up to him. Knowing that I don't have anything for him on the bike (right now ;)), I figured that race was over. Somewhere I did pass James, but knew he wasn't far behind. I blew up a little around mile 2.5 or a little after and had a little lull. James took advantage and passed me. He got a little gap and I tried to keep it manageable. James beat me into T1 by :15.
What would you do differently?:

Run more, and more consistantly. I'm getting my longer runs in, but am having trouble getting motivated for the shorter runs. Probably, to be honest, a little better run time than I deserve right now.

Comments:

Little trouble getting bike shoes on, but nothing too bad. Just need to hurry up a little, could easily cut :20 off this

Comments:

I beat James out of T1, not sure how ;). On the bike and up to speed through the park. Seemed to be a slight headwind on the way out. I thought that would be good for the return trip. Just didn't seem to have my usual bike legs and the calves felt crampy. Mind was, honestly, a little on the upcoming birthday trip with Monica, so mindset wasn't ideal either. Never felt like I was "in it." Not a bad ride, but not good enough.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure the wheel cover is the best thing for this bike/wheel. Will leave it off for awhile. Get mind right and PUSH!!! It's a race!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Biggest limitter is weight. This race is more fun about 15lbs lighter. More consistant training would be good too.

Event comments:

As always, a quality race and a fun one.
