Swim
Comments: nice visibility, cool but not cold. fairly smooth conditions. prior practice swims had bad visibility and was quite cold, but by race day conditions were much better. What would you do differently?: everything went well, nothing different. might get a pair of speedos though, easier to change out to the bike shorts. Transition 1
Comments: grabbed my T1 bag and ran into the changing tent. I had changed my strategy to getting into dry clothes for the bike, since it had been cold pre-race. Also got arm sleeves just in case. My T1 time was really slow, but my first time with a wetsuit and also first time switching into different clothes. What would you do differently?: practice my T1 with wetsuit removal and changing clothes. Bike
Comments: road surfaces varies here, they use a chip and tar for paving, and can be rough in spots. generally ok. winds built as the day heated up, and had some slow segments due to headwinds, but also some good tailwinds to help out. Overall a good ride, with good conditions. What would you do differently?: go faster ? ;-) Transition 2
Comments: ok T2. much more efficient changing in to the run clothes, so not too terrible. glad I changed, since the sun is pretty hot here and it came out for most of the run. hot! with flies! Run
Comments: I am hoping to develop a faster marathon as time goes by with more training. I was happy how I paced it, started slow and gradually picked up the pace. Tried to do a negative split, but maybe someday! the flies and the heat made it less fun, but wasn't too bad. the spectators were awesome as were the volunteers at the aid stations! my right quad went out on the last loop, and was icing every aid station, managed to make it in on sheer will power. Post race
Warm down: walked and did not sit down !! was afraid of getting locked up, but did not. ate hot food and felt fine. quads sore !! What limited your ability to perform faster: inexperience perhaps...hoping to improve for future IMs. Event comments: awesome pre race and post race dinners, and excellent support and management by SunSmart !
