Pre-race routine:

Slept in a bit and got up at 5 and ate some breakfast. Drove out to Aurora rez and the gates were closed still at 6 A.M. Got in and was second in transition near the bike in and out. It was very cold this morning around 38 degrees.
Event warmup:

Dynamic stretching and a short run. Got in the water to get acclimated to the 58 degree water. It was warmer than the air temp.
Swim
  • 37m 26s
  • 2300 yards
  • 01m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

I opted to wear the polar cap as well today. This was one of my best swims ever. I beat my friend Paul out of the vater by 15 seconds. I have never been this close to him. Very happy. I could not see anything on the way out. the sun was right there. So I just kept drafting on people around me. Coming back was much more wavey. Found some feet and sited well.
What would you do differently?:

nothing.
Transition 1
  • 02m 1s
Comments:

This was long because I put on a jacket, wool socks, cycling beanie and gloves. It was cold out there. So decent T1 considering.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 2h 32m 15s
  • 56 miles
  • 22.07 mile/hr
Comments:

It was nice heading east witht the tail wind. But going west was a bear. The wind was steady and right in your face. this course was also very hilly. alot like nationals only longer.I had a couple guys pass me on the bike. Overall it was a good ride. Peed on the biek twice while moving.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 2
  • 00m 56s
Comments:

Changed socks and took off all my riding clothes. So it was decent.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 1h 42m 3s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 07m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

this is where the wheels fell off. I was feeling poor from the start and knew I would struggle. First 6 miles were on pace to hit 1:35. Last 6 were torture. At mile 11 I thought about not finishing with running. I took 2 endurlytes and began running again. Felt a bit better and brouht it home. my buddy Paul caught me at mile 11 and went by me.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more on the bike . I think I didn't drink enough gatorade on the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Sat in a daze, my wife and kids came out to cheer me at the finish, that was nice. I just felt like crap afterwards. I think I was getting sick. I am home today with a 103 degree temp. Don't know if that had anything to do with it. I think I was dehydrated as well.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Dehydration and lack of run distance in the last month.

Event comments:

great race put on by Darrin and Racing Underground.
