US Women's Triathlon Series
68F / 20C
Precipitation
Total Time = 1h 32m 54s
Overall Rank = 348/1604
Age Group = F35-39
Age Group Rank = 80/371
Pre-race routine:

Bagel 2.5 hours before hand. Gel about 30 minutes beforehand. Nothing too out of the ordinary for me. Spent some time in port-a-potty lines, of course.
Event warmup:

It was raining and cold, so I didn't even want to get in the water. So, I didn't.
Swim
  • 15m 34s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 05s / 100 meters
Comments:

This is my best swim EVER. No panicking, no hyperventilating. Woohoo! Was with some of my wave for all of the swim, which is different than usual, since I'm usually left behind pretty quickly. Had to figure out how to swim with other people around me.
What would you do differently?:

Learn how to draft, better with navigation, better rounding the buoys. Of course - more practice might help, too.
Transition 1
  • 04m 18s
Comments:

Long run from swim into transition area. Lost some time because I put on a sock upside down. And because it had been raining, everyting was wet and a little harder to handle. Still - I felt like I took forever in this transition.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to do these things sockless.
Bike
  • 46m 5s
  • 13.8 miles
  • 17.97 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt slow on the bike, and indeed I was 2 minutes slower than last year. Course was wet, so I was a little more careful in the turns and felt like that hampered me getting back up to speed.
What would you do differently?:

More time in the saddle. I haven't had enough quality time with my bike to see the kind of results I want.
Transition 2
  • 01m 42s
Comments:

This was pretty easy. Might have been able to run with the bike faster, but otherwise, no complaints.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Run
  • 25m 17s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt pretty good on the run. First mile came in sub-8 minute and so I backed off a little on the second mile ... but TOO MUCH! When I saw the 9 minute mile, then I kicked it back into gear and - how, I don't know - pushed out a 7:15 mile. Started raining again in my last mile ... it had held off while I was on the bike, though, so I was happy!
What would you do differently?:

Not back off quite as much that second mile. Probably could have broken 25:00 if I were more careful.
Post race
Warm down:

Wait for my friend to come in, and then run for cover since it had started pouring out!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Wet pavement. Not enough training.

Event comments:

I really enjoy this race ... nice, unintimidating swim and FLAT bike and run courses. And because it's all women it's a "you go, girl!" kind of environment, which is a nice change of pace.
