Swim
Comments: The swim time was a shock to me. I had not posted that good of a swim ever. My sighting was terrible but I stayed relaxed and that had to have helped. Only got kicked in the face twice so that wasn't too bad. I really can't beleive that swim wasn't short. That was a PR by almost 3 minutes. What would you do differently?: I need to work on my sighting. If I have buoys to either side I seem to do better but I still need a lot of work. Transition 1
Comments: Pretty happy with transition. I need to get better at putting my shoes on. I also need to decide if it is time to practice leaving the shoes on the bike and putting them on there instead of T1. What would you do differently?: Work on T1 a bit more and maybe at least start going sockless for the bike and working up to leaving the shoes on the bike. Bike
Comments: The bike went pretty well for 95% of the ride. About 4 miles in I thought I had a flat so I stopped to check. Nope, turns out being fat gives the same look on the tire. Plus my brake was rubbing. Got that fixed and headed back out. Overall I was pretty happy with the bike. I need some more climbing work but carried speed well over the flats. Never felt too stressed at any point. Maybe could have gone harder but being first race of the season I wasn't sure how I would run off the bike so I did use some down hill on Africa Rd to rest the legs a bit before the Dam Hill and the run. What would you do differently?: Trust my bike fitness a bit more and maybe be a little more aggressive on the downhills. I have improved on the bike a lot in the last year but still have some more to go to get competetive in the bigger events. Transition 2
Comments: This was the first attempt at the flying dismount. It went pretty well. I was able to get off the bike without incident. The run to Transition was much easier without the bike shoes. What would you do differently?: Not much. I lost some time with a sloppy left shoe attempt but other than that pretty solid. Run
Comments: I dropped 3 mintues of my sprint tri 5k time with this run. All the miles paid off over the winter I guess. I still think I can go faster with some more training. After the race I got a comment that I never expected. A fellow Clyde told me that I was "crusing" on the run and then asked a question that I never thought I would hear... Are you a runner? I have only been running for about 18 months so that was a nice boost to the self esteem. What would you do differently?: I need to learn to push a little harder on mile 2. I always seem to give back some time in mile 2 compared to 1 and 3. Trusting my training is something I need to do. Post race
Warm down: Stretched and tried to keep walking a bit. Talked to a couple of friends and waited for the resluts to be posted. What limited your ability to perform faster: I think my confidence in my training and fitness was low. I need to trust the work and leave it all out there on race day. Event comments: Overall the race was pretty good. Plenty of volunteers and even some spectators on the course. I will definitely be back. Last updated: 2012-01-06 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4am and had my normal raceday breakfast of waffles and peanut butter. Had everything packed up the night before so I did one more quick check and loaded the car for the 45min drive to Alum Creek. Once I got there I did quick body marking and racked my bike. I was early enough to get an end slot which worked out well.
I did some light jogging and then climbed into the wetsuit so I could get some swimming in. Practice had been getting better with the suit so I wanted to make sure I could get myself relaxed before starting the swim.
