Total Time = 1h 19m 52s
Overall Rank = 61/322
Age Group = M 40 - 44
Age Group Rank = 7/18
Pre-race routine:

Bagel with Peanut Butter and an Energy Drink with enough caffeine to get me started.
Event warmup:

light jogging - quick swim in the lake to get the blood flowing
Swim
  • 07m 45s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

First time trial start - ran in, jumped in and hit the gas and ran immediately into a group of floating sea-mines drifting slowly across the course. I thought that these folks would be bit faster - trying to get around them, caught a lungful of water and had to stop for almost a minute to get breath back and don't hork. Settled in after that but given the short course the damage was done - left at least a minute on the swim course.
What would you do differently?:

try not to avoid minefields (plow through - I'll be gone quickly anyway) and try to avoid lungfuls of water
Transition 1
  • 02m 18s
Comments:

long run out of the water - rest worked well
What would you do differently?:

nothing really
Bike
  • 40m 9s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 18.58 mile/hr
Comments:

Good ride - nice effort (hard but not too hard, left something in the tank) passed a lot of people with bling bikes and only got passed by a few - 37rd overall is NICE - engine always trumps the rig!
What would you do differently?:

want to get a compact chainring in front
Transition 2
  • 02m 22s
Comments:

Vibrams definitely slow down transition - took at least 30 secs longer to get them on vs. running shoes
What would you do differently?:

not much I can do if I want to run in Vibrams
Run
  • 27m 16s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

While not a great run at least not the usual slaughter - running training seems to have paid off. Really tough course with the big hill in the middle (people walking up)
What would you do differently?:

Push harder, I think I should be able to
Post race
Warm down:

got some Gatorade, Water, and Bagel and started cheering the people coming in

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bad swim, try to avoid breathing water and need to be push harder on the run

Event comments:

Fun race but I think I'm done with Sprints - they are just over too quickly
