Pre-race routine:

Yesterday- low fiber, no dairy, no alcohol, Allegra at bedtime, slept Ok, woke before alarm. Ate 2 tortillas w/ an egg, tea, almond zone bar, water. Took decong & Claritin and loperamide this morning. Sweet cuddle with sleepyhead baby before I left: on time 7am. Arrived really early but so did everyone else! Very busy in transition. Found mav, rori & Dave q. Really worried about breathing in the lake. SO Glad for all the Rookie Tri-Mania support!!
Event warmup:

Stretch, walk, stand in line potty, jog. Play iPod as long as possible. This is supposed to be fun, right? Waded in before the swim start, got face & hands wet, sat in the lake, then jumped around a bit as we waited, trying to get my HR up a bit. Was plenty nervous. Nice to start the race with mav's company and encouragement.
Swim
  • 10m 54s
  • 402 meters
  • 02m 43s / 100 meters
Comments:

Much better than my three recent OWS; albuterol inhaler helped, and warming up better, and working on my wetsuit to make more space in my chest, but breathing was still tough. Only a little discomfort from the cold water; not terrible. I actually passed people when swimming full stroke, but I had to pause to breathe in breaststroke, and then was hardly moving forward; just focused on staying calm and moving buoy-to-buoy. Glad I stayed calm, but not a good swim, compared to how I was doing last fall.
What would you do differently?:

no bronchospasm
Transition 1
  • 03m 22s
Comments:

Used inhaler again, took a moment to towel off, put on shorts & tank over two-piece swimsuit, tried not to doodle around. Fairly labored breathing and uncomfortable.
What would you do differently?:

since it turned out to be much warmer than we expected, I could have just worn tri top & shorts under the wet suit and gone out wet on the bike, instead of the 2pc swim suit as base layer.
Bike
  • 38m 55s
  • 10 miles
  • 15.42 mile/hr
Comments:

This was the best I could do today, pushing myself the whole way, passed a few gals, was passed by a few; "left it all on the course" and felt completely wiped out by T2. I did meet my <40mins goal, but wish it had been faster.
What would you do differently?:

train harder, develop leg strength for hills and cardio capacity to push harder for longer, not be cowardly on the downhills and make the most of them!
Transition 2
  • 01m 14s
Comments:

quick as I could go, but my legs felt dead.
Run
  • 30m 38s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

Had a stitch in my side right from T2 for most of the run. I did the best I could, I'm just not a speedy runner. Sub-10min/mi is pretty good for me! The Kinvara shoes were great! I passed more people than passed me, and I'm running better than last year. Met my <32min goal YAY :)
Post race
Warm down:

water, gatorade, walk, change into dry shorts, met up with mav & folks, had a burger and some beans & rice, sat in the sun during awards & drawings.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

cold water, pollen/asthma, feeling overweight, inconsistent training lately, nervous, lack of bike training, not enough speed/LT work for the run, lack of OWS practice this season. I think I need a funky Rookie Pignuts in BeastMode shirt for races, too; that will definitely speed me up!

Event comments:

nice event, would definitely do a MaxP event again. If I want to get faster, I have a lot of work to do.
