Comments: I had decided before the race to do this just for fun, especially since I had never done a trail run before. However, when that gun went off, I could not stop myself and I basically ran almost as hard as I could. I was surprised by how hard the course was, but I had a lot of fun. What would you do differently?: The only thing I did not realize at the time is that with that many twists and turns, the distance in my Garmin was way off. I should have noticed this, since when the sinuous section started, my pace started to show up as really slow, and it did not feel like that was the pace I was running at. As a result, when we were in the final segment, a few people realized this and accelerated while I thought we were still ways off and lost about 5 spots which I could have prevented, since I had some energy left in me. Warm down: I just walked around for a bit near the finish line while watching others finish. When my heart rate dropped to 120 I grabbed some Gatorade and stretched. Then got some food, cookies a brownie and a banana. What limited your ability to perform faster: I was very pleased with my performance, the only thing I could have done is sprinted harder towards the finish, if I had realized we were already there. Woke up, got dressed and ready and had a glass of orange juice and a whole wheat bagel with nutella. Then drove to the race and an hour before the start had a bottle of Gatorade.
Jogged for a few minutes, stretched and then walked to the starting line about 10 minutes before the scheduled start.
