Age Group Rank = 24/
Pre-race routine:

woke up-stomach felt like hell-not nerves, but drainage, allergy bothering me a bit. ate a cliff bar. water.
Event warmup:

rode bike up hill from park lot. stomach not 100% - butt kicks/high knees. no running/swimming. visited restroom-stomach felt better.
Swim
  • 09m 59s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 17s / 100 yards
Comments:

continue to swim well at pool and freeze up in the water at the tri races. nuts. stroke felt off - breathing bad. actually passed 2 in the pool - but last 50 tried to pass guy on his left..he moved towards me and slammed my head - I took in a big drink of water - turned on back to spit out (passed the joker on the bike)
What would you do differently?:

continue swimming - go to carmel masters.....
Transition 1
  • 02m 25s
Comments:

wiped off feet - no socks - but I did put on a wind jacket for bike.
What would you do differently?:

faster with tri top-no drying-no socks for sprint.
Bike
  • 33m 16s
  • 10 miles
  • 18.04 mile/hr
Comments:

I swam late=334..so 30 min behind top finishers - so for most part, I was by myself during ride/run. Only 1 bike, a carbon tri - passed me- while we were going into the wind, looks like the aero bars help into the wind. my bike pace felt hard - since fighting the wind - kept cadence 80ish- changed gears to fit effort - some speeds 14+ into wind and 28+ with wind.
What would you do differently?:

keep riding.
Transition 2
  • 01m 44s
Comments:

no socks eased transition - windbreaker off was easy = had run shoes pre-tied and they slipped on no problem. sat on curb putting on shoes.
What would you do differently?:

no windbreaker will speed up a bit.
Run
  • 23m 14s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

legs real tight - normally loosen up as I go - but not today. legs took too much pounding riding into wind? felt it in the butt. hill workouts paid off keeping the run going. disappointed time not 7:30 or less.
What would you do differently?:

little more of a jog before race
Post race
Warm down:

normal butt kicks/high knees - no additional running. should have gone for a 2 miles jog down...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

stomach

Event comments:

its a well run HS pool sprint - tons of volunteers - post race had noodles & company catered =always good - but no music/no atmosphere like the summer lake tri's - but it is all good.
