Overall Rank = 136/170

Age Group Rank = 10/17
Pre-race routine:

Rode gear over from the parking lot. Set up and scoped out the entry and exit points. This was helpful because it wasn't where you thought it would be. Watched the wave before me in the pool. Stretched the shoulders out.
Event warmup:

Swam a couple out and backs to get the feel of the pool. Great water temp.
Swim
  • 15m 43s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

Couldn't draft, didn't get close enough to anyone. Swam breathing only on the right side (which is not the one I chose when practicing this). This worked well. I tried every 3rd, but it wasn't enough. Finished the last lap in side stroke.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 02m 12s
Comments:

Felt like I smoked the transitions. I ran from the pool, which is the first time I've been able to do that. Everything came together well, didn't dry off feet, just stood on the towel and did the socks last. Needed to move to the end to get stabilized standing on one foot. Also ran with my bike through the transition area, sweet. Did stop to hop on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 51m 12s
  • 13.67 miles
  • 16.02 mile/hr
Comments:

Started out fast, averaging about 18 mph, started to fade as we went. Head wind on the way back. I didn't see more than 3 people on the ride and I passed them. The first one shortly after starting and the other two within the last 3 miles. I basically rode by myself the whole time. Weird. Part of it was me getting out of transition so fast.
What would you do differently?:

Train more on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 24s
Comments:

I ran in with the bike and racked my bike with the brake handles both times. Started to work my fingers in the home stretch so that I could use them. Ran through the transition area too.
What would you do differently?:

Put stretchy laces in my shoes so that I don't have to tie them.
Run
  • 45m 4s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 14m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

Tried to run, but my shins hurt. Did a lot of short run walk intervals to start. Then a muscle near my right knee started cramping and spasming. Was a tough run.
What would you do differently?:

Find a way to run more. Better training on the bike and bricks?
Post race
Warm down:

Walked right in the pool to watch Annie's swim wave start. Just made it too.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Shins and muscle spasm of the legs.

Event comments:

This is now my favorite race. I look forward to improving and doing it again. I really like the shorter swim length.

Course: Great course. The road was pretty free of gravel, and at my wave there wasn't traffic on the course. Pretty well marked. But had a couple from the wave in front of me, ride by going in the opposite direction telling me "we're off course". I stopped and the guy behind me said, no were good, so I restarted. Basically flat.
