Pre-race routine:

The day before the race we ate at Amy's Flaming Bowl. It has become a race tradition. Maria's son came with us which was a nice addition.
Event warmup:

Awake at 4, again at 4:09 and up at 4:18 (snooze). We were one of the first to be at the race site and parked in the usual spot, half way between the bike and swim starts. We brought our bikes to T2 and got body marked and our chips. T1 was at the beach so we stopped at the truck and picked up our plastic bins with everything needed for T1. It was nice to put it all in the bin since T1 is on the beach, in the sand.
Swim

  • 820 yards
  • 03m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

I took a dramamine so I didn't get that sick feeling. The first swim went well. The second swim was pathetic. The breakers kicked up, and my goggles leaked. They filled with sea water and I couldn't see. I must have stopped 5 times to let water out. I finally grabbed a kayak dude and held on as I tried to reseat the goggles.
What would you do differently?:

I wish I could find goggles that do not leak.

Comments:

The bike was decent. I have not got much bike time in so I was not as fast as I could have/should have been. I cant complain though, old BLAZE did fine. The only things I didnt care for was the sharp turn around for the second loop. Im not the greatest at tight turns around a cone. I didnt care for the "bike in" location either. I had to go down a stretch of road to the bike in and couldnt pass the people in front of me. Everyone was slowing for the dismount and there was a bottle neck of folks slowing too soon. This bike was not 12.43 miles long. It might not have even been 12.
What would you do differently?:

work on the engine
Transition 2

Comments:

this was done as part of the first run

Post race
Warm down:

went to the hotel and showered then hung with the gang.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of proper training

Event comments:

I always like doing this race. Its different than the typical tri, and theres lots of action.
