Pre-race routine:

Usual bagel and diet mt. dew.
Event warmup:

Not much - no room to do any running - so I just spent about 2 minutes sprinting about 50 yards in the only free area by the race corrals.

Comments:

Goal was 1:22 or better. Plan was to start off at 6:15 miles until mile 10 and then try to pick up the pace. 1st 2 miles were mostly downhill, so was able to put some time in the bank without hurting myself. Everything was going well until the big hill at the end of mile 9. Then it was followed with a long uphill over a bridge back into downtown. That section killed my hopes of picking up the pace. I was finally able to recover from the hills by about mile 12 and then just gave it as much as I could to try to make up for the time lost on those hills.
When I crossed the finish line, the clock said 1:22:05 so I thought I had missed my goal be a few seconds. Luckily, I forgot about the slight delay to start the race which made my official chip time 1:22:00.
What would you do differently?:

Not much I could do during the race, the problem was lack of hill training.

Warm down:

Stretched a little and drank everything in sight.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of hills near me. Not much opportunity to train on hills.

Event comments:

This was my first race that had a huge attendance. It was fun to be a part of the energy from the large crowds.
