Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:45, had some waffles w/ jelly and a cup of water. Packed up the car and drove to the course.
Event warmup:

Setup transition, used the site facilities a couple of times, spent some time in the water trying to get used to the temps.
Swim
  • 14m 14s
  • 805 meters
  • 01m 46s / 100 meters
Comments:

I was really happy with my navigation on this swim. Last year I had a lot of troubles keeping my boundaries and ended up swimming all over creation. This year, just prior to the gun going off, I set my path and target check points. To my surprise, and great joy, I managed to hit every one of my targets without any course corrections (except dodging a few feet to the face and stomach =D).
What would you do differently?:

I am pretty pleased with this effort. I know I'm not a fast swimmer by any stretch of the imagination. That said, I can push myself harder at the end. I feel like that is the typical canned opinion for most of us in hind sight :)
Transition 1
  • 01m 21s
Comments:

I took my time in T1 to make sure I was ready to go. My socks took a few extra seconds to get on than normal - oh well. The real story was the poor effort in getting going on the bike. My foot slipped off of one of my shoes just after the mount line. Not only did it kill my momentum, but I kocked the strap out of the bind and spent much of the first mile trying to strap in my shoe while on the go.
What would you do differently?:

I practice this all the time, so I'm not really sure what went wrong.
Bike
  • 53m 30s
  • 18.6 miles
  • 20.86 mile/hr
Comments:

I was happy to see 20+ mph on my computer for most of the race, especially for not feeling like I pushed myself out of my comfort zone. The only other item of note on the bike was getting stuck behind a truck (thought they closed the roads?!) for just over a mile, forcing me to slow to ~15mph until I could finally slide pass.
What would you do differently?:

I know I can hold the 22+mph pace for this distance and still save the run. I guess I needed this race to give me better confidence.
Transition 2
  • 00m 52s
Comments:

I was having a hard time finding my rack.
What would you do differently?:

Typically if I'm in and out of T2 in under 1min, I'm happy.
Run
  • 20m 52s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run to close out the race. I made the decision early on to not risk a blow up by pushing my pace too hard since I haven't been doing a lot of run-off-bike practice so far this year.
What would you do differently?:

I'll take this run ...and run :-P I'm happy with the overall effort, just need to get back into the racing mindset and pick up a little confidence with a more aggressive pace.

Event comments:

Another great time at this race. This one might make it on the annual list.
