Pre-race routine:

Got up early, since I couldn't sleep... Had a banana for breakfast around 4:30 and hit the road for the race
Event warmup:

Had a lot of standing around to do since my swim wave wasn't until an hour after the first wave... Had a lot of time to get nervous & stretch...
Swim
  • 42m
  • 1931 meters
  • 02m 10s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim was slower than expected... Got a bloody nose about 500 meters in from a nasty kick to the face... Took some time to regain my composure... Finished about 2-3 minutes slower than planned...
What would you do differently?:

First time ever swimming in salt water... Next time I'll be better prepared for a salt water event. Wouldn't do much of anything different, except maybe wear a helmet...
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

T1 was about par for the course...
What would you do differently?:

Faster getting gear... Fumbled around a little more than I was planning on...
Bike
  • 3h 11m
  • 56 miles
  • 17.59 mile/hr
Comments:

Had nasty cross winds... Pace was a hair slower than planned... But, for my first time going that distance, I survived and did OK...
What would you do differently?:

Practice, practice, practice... Gotta get the bike on the pavement more & off the trainer...
Transition 2
  • 03m 40s
Comments:

Felt pretty good in T2... Got in & out about as fast as I could...
What would you do differently?:

Focus & faster...
Run
  • 2h 28m
  • 13.1 miles
  • 11m 18s  min/mile
Comments:

It was HOT & HUMID!!! Legs were cramping up after half way point pretty bad... Had to do a lot of walking the last 6 miles or so... Had to give it all I had just to finish...
What would you do differently?:

Practice, practice, and practice... Weather conditions played a big part though... Not used to the heat & humidity so early in the year... Caught me off guard...
Post race
Warm down:

Walked a few miles since the car was parked about 2 miles away... Got some drinks & food in me... Cheered on all of the runners left on the course for a while...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Genetics...

Event comments:

Awesome race, awesome volunteers, everything was great except for mother nature trying to burn me up... Would definitely do this race again if given the opportunity...
