Sunny
Total Time = 3h 24m 5s
Overall Rank = 318/376
Age Group = M45-49
Age Group Rank = 38/43
Pre-race routine:

Smartest move - loading everything into my car the nite before
Woke up a 4:30 am ! Made some coffee, grab drinks, jump in car and boogied.
Event warmup:

Not so much. Only had time for a 5 minute run.
Swim
  • 34m
  • 1760 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

First race with a wetsuit and it was awesome ! Loved it. I think it would have been bit chilly without it. Did well sighting bouys once I saw them, but after i passed one it took a while before i picked up the next one.
What would you do differently?:

work on my sighting more.
Transition 1
  • 06m 50s
Comments:

So, like i said, first time with the wetsuit and it's going to take some practice getting it off. I new this going into the race and was really concerned about my T1 time. Tho, when i place very close to last in T1 made me think this is something i really could work on.
What would you do differently?:

Practice T1, wetsuits at mini-tris just for practice.
Bike
  • 1h 32m 28s
  • 25 miles
  • 16.22 mile/hr
Comments:

All of the above, marked as average was really a combination of good and average. A lot of hills were good, some were average.
What would you do differently?:

Practice Hills.
Transition 2
  • 01m 57s
Comments:

I think i walked the bike in. My legs were pretty shot from the hills. I knew i was going to probably have to take it real slow at the beginning of the run, so no rush to get the running shoes on.
What would you do differently?:

Practice some bricks and start thinking a little more about nutrition. Thighs and calves seem to cramp up a lot. hydration?, somethings gotta be done..
Run
  • 1h 08m 51s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 11m 06s  min/mile
Comments:

This was really a struggle. Trying to manage my left thigh cramping. walking, taking some hydration (but not too much) eating another goo. I was happy that i was able to run most of the second lap, so something must have worked.
What would you do differently?:

I need to try to figure out how to eat to prepare for the raca and eat/drink during the race better.
Post race
Warm down:

Really, not very much at all. Hot dog, 1/2 a burger, a beer and some water and gatorade. I did walk around quite a bit, but didn't do any stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nutrition mostly, but also just lack of running ability.

Event comments:

This race was really about the swim for me. I was very nervous about being able to do the distance. I think i did really well. So next time i can focus more on improving T1, Nutrition/Hydration and the run.
