Comments:

The course had to be short because calculating time I would have had to do 1:35/100 for 1/2 mile, which is way too fast.
I was very hyper for some reason, perhaps it was because it was the first triathlon since last year and only 2nd triathlon in 2 years. I had on my sleeveless wetsuit, which is a bit too tight in the chest and neck...didn't warm up...big mistake. I stood up front to start. When gun went off everyone ran in much faster than I did so by the time I started swimming I was in the middle of it all. I hyper ventilated! I could not breath and had to stop..a little panicky for the first couple of 100 yards thinking I should just take off the wetsuit that was restricting my breathing badly. I finally, thank goodness, got my breath after slowing down and got used to the tight wetsuit..came in 2nd by 10 seconds..could have easily come in first with a more intelligent start
What would you do differently?:

warm up
consider not wearing a wetsuit when water warm
had on tight bra...may have contributed to tight wetsuit..try something else underneath
Transition 1
  • 13m 57s
Comments:

had to run over 1/4 mile on sand, then over rough parking lot..at which point, I walked all the way to my bike because feet hurt slow taking off wetsuit, slightly dizzy and off balance so slow putting on bike shoes
What would you do differently?:

practice! Also, should have put flip flops out or have Mike hand them to me. I don't know how others ran over that parking lot. I lost over 2 min over leader
Bike
  • 32m 45s
  • 9.5 miles
  • 17.40 mile/hr
Comments:

race advertised 10 miles, but PT read 9.5 miles and avg of 17 mph
I was pretty happy really with my bike..I think I've improved..avg watts 100, normalized 106 on PT I remember thinking I was at zone 3 and that is harder than usual for me. I concentrated on cadence and perhaps could have been better on gears, but overall good.
What would you do differently?:

maybe go harder? have to train more intervals to do so..was a bit afraid to go all out
Transition 2
  • 02m 15s
Comments:

average...lost some time here too...
What would you do differently?:

need to practice, rusty getting into shoes with tri laces
Run
  • 38m 38s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 11m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

my calculations..about 11:22 pace race advertised as 4, but no way..
very happy and surprised my knee didn't hurt so that's all that counts here.
1st- 10:25 2nd-10:45 3rd-11:45 something like that on watch
What would you do differently?:

nothing..good run for where I'm at ... no speed work at this point and shuffling along at 12:38 pace most of the time
Post race
Event comments:

Fun race and venue, great post race food, lots of fun on flat, windy course. Challenge run on sand; very long transition from the water. Would do it again.
