Age Group Rank = 28/29
Pre-race routine:

Arrived at 0545 and dismounted bicycle and went to set up TA. Set up TA, picked up timing chip and talked with fellow athletes in TA. 0630 started stretching. 0645 pre-race meeting. Continued strecting throughout wait for pool entry. Entered pool at 0830! Yes!
Event warmup:

Alot of stretching, arms, legs, back...
Swim
  • 14h 06m
  • 400 meters
  • 3h 31m 30s / 100 meters
Comments:

I felt very good in the water, good breathing, stroke felt good. I alternated between a free style down 1 lane to a backstroke return.
What would you do differently?:

Will freestyle entire swim at OU on the 28 of April 2012!
Transition 1
  • 02m 2s
Comments:

It was very cold! I believe 44 degrees when I exited the pool to the transition area. I WILL take my glasses into pool area from now on! I was not aware that you could take anything that you did not intend to SWIM with in the pool area. I did not enjoy the 1:45 hour wait until swim, but what can you do, pool swim. Overall I felt REALLT GOOD about swim!!
What would you do differently?:

Take glasses into the pool area. Air Force will not pay for lazer vision correction yet!
Bike
  • 59h 30m
  • 12.43 miles
  • 0.21 mile/hr
Comments:

Great as described above!
What would you do differently?:

Practice shifting.
Transition 2
  • 02m 17s
Comments:

Cold Temperatures made things slower!
What would you do differently?:

Move a little faster! Going to try a Tri short rather than Tri bikini. I do like the bikini though for you can throw on a good pair of cycling pants/shorts and you have a double pad! I switched from cycling shorts to running shorts (vanity thing)! Went well, I think. Just speed up a bit!
Run
  • 27h 18m
  • 3.11 miles
  • 8h 46m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

Wow, I got off the bike, transitioned, and my legs were "confused". I started out at a very slow almost shuffle for the first 200 - 300 yds. I got to the water station just past mile 1, got a drink and all of a sudden legs said "time to go". I felt stronger the longer I ran! I got to mile 2 and started to "open up"! I had a nice kick left at the finish!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, keep running!
Post race
Warm down:

Mini-walk, bagel with cream cheese and WATER, WATER, WATER!! Medal and went to TA to "tear down"!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing that I can think of.

Event comments:

This was a great FIRST Triathalon! I wish the weather would have been just a bit warmer and no rain, but this is Ohio and it's a great challenge! Overall MUSF did a GREAT job putting together a GREAT event! Met some great people and I am IN! Scheduled for OU the next weekend and plan to do 2-3 more this summer/fall. THANKS Miami and Go Redhawks!
