Pre-race routine:

Protien shake from Breakfast, drove up with Mike and Wendy. Arrived about 6:30 and set up transition area. Met some of the otehrs from the Y and hung out. Mike took me around the course and showed me the swim route and the ins and out of tranistion area. Water was 79 so not wet suit legal, but we were allowed to wear if we were not going for a prize. I decided to wear mine. Great choice.
Event warmup:

Light stretching
Swim
  • 26m 13s
  • 820 yards
  • 03m 12s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was not able to do any open water swims. Could not bilateral breathe and was breathing on every stroke. Could not sight so I ended up swimming about 5-6- out of my way on the back long leg.
What would you do differently?:

More swimming in the open water I was jsut to nervous and reverted to old bad habits.
Transition 1
  • 04m 11s
Comments:

Complete monkey brain getting out of the water, staggered like a drunk going up the ramp, but okay when I hit level ground. I had a little trouble with the zipper, but it didn't slow me down. I was the last in my area so I had no trouble finding my bike and plenty of room to put on socks and sneakers. I got a cut on my foot but didn't notice it till well after the race. Took of drink or two of Powerade Zero Orange, grabbed bike and hit the exit.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 1h 05m 52s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 11.32 mile/hr
Comments:

Every one had warned me about the first hill so I had it in the low gears but wasnot able to make it up the first hill had to walk. Once I was past that it was a good go. the course is hilly with rollers on a slight incline. Got passed by three people on the out but passed on on the way back and stayed with the other two. Had to walk up the last hill because I missed the shift.
What would you do differently?:

I did a lot of hill work, but I apparently need even more.
Transition 2
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

Used my running shoes for the ride so i didn't ahve to change. Mike met me at the entrance and sheered me on, Wendy was ast the Rack and cheered me on. Racked my bike drank some more powerade Zero put on my running cap and took off.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing Ranked 4th on my T2 in AG and 73rd over all not bad.
Run
  • 45m 40s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 14m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

Good course, a lot of rollers and well shaded. I walked most of it I used up everything on the ride back, trying to make up time.
What would you do differently?:

More running
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around and rehydrate

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I traiend well for this, but it is a challenging course. The venue is great but I was not prepared enough. I put on 20 lbs in the last 6 months that i have not been able to lose.

Event comments:

Everything about this race was great except my performance, and that is all on me. Even though I trained very hard was was not as prepared as i could have been. I strongly reccomend this race, but not to first timers, unless they have a lot of OWS practice in.
